Quail

The quail have definitely decided my backyard is the place to be today. It reminds me of how it must have looked when the quail rained on the children of Israel after they complained about having no meat. I can not imagine eating the adorable birds with their black plumes bobbing. The babies are hiding under the lilac bush to the left, and both males and females take turns guarding them while others go out and eat.
They asked, and he brought them quail and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. He opened the rock, and water gushed out; like a river it flowed in the desert.

  1. I'm a Californian so I have a special soft spot for quail, especially the teeny little'uns. Thanks for the great video.

  2. Rick. A very dear friend lives in California and feeds wild turkeys every day. After they leave the quail come out and eat their fill. They are adorable little things. I especially like to see mama followed by the little ones. Thank you for this post. Hi Laura.

  3.      I'm so glad you enjoyed it. It's always so nice when the quail decide to grace my backyard.

  4. We have quail here in south Louisiana, but they don't look like your picture. Ours are not as pretty.

All right, I've eaten quail a time or two. It's delicious. My husband and sons are hunters. They don't often encounter quail in their hunts, but once or twice they did.

    Mea culpa.

If the game is there, why not eat it? I don't hunt, but I feel better about eating game than about eating packaged poultry and meat.

  5.      Quail are hunted here too, Grandmère. It is Nevada after all, where it seems everyone has a gun or two in the house. I don't object to it; I just don't care for hunting personally - I'm a wimpy, bleeding-heart priest.
